Build 36. 4 Point Harness (Seatbelt) Part 1

Now the rear bulkhead has the carpet and boot cover in place, it is time to attach the 4 top belts to the chassis, this will then mean we can move on to the track day rollbar knowing it will not be coming off again in a hurry! I thought that both sets of seatbelts were in one box, but as it turns out, CC had only sent me 1 set so a quick email to them got the process of having the other set sent out to me started. This was a relatively quick turnaround and they should be with me tomorrow. It turns out the vertical straps are all the same anyway, so I'll simply plan to fit the outside belts from the first set, and then the inside set can go on at any time!

Each belt came in a white box with all the fixings inside the box as shown below, I went for the these red belts to match the red chassis. I'm only going to install the top belts now and will be leaving the side belts for part 2 later as these will need the tunnel carpet in place before installing.

So onto a quick lunch time session for 30 minutes, I quickly removed the rollbar (as it was only pinned in place) and set about installing the outer of the vertical belts (basically the ones that will foul the track day roll bar). I first confirmed that both vertical belts were exactly the same so I can use the belts from one set on either side, knowing that the belt I get in the post tomorrow will be OK to fit in the inside verticals. The manual is not clear on the arrangement of the bolts and washers, but a quick blog search led me to the solution which was:

Bolt - Washer - Harness - Thin wobbly washer - Aluminium Spacer

This would simply sit on top of the boot cover and be bolted in directly, I also made use of the cardboard washer between the chassis/boss and the carpet/boot cover for completeness. It will not be seen and apparently this is where it used to go, however I think this is no longer necessary but won't hurt.

Once both outside belts were in place and torqued to 47Nm, I marked the bolts as they enter the boot so I know they have been torqued, I then put the roll bar back in place, ready to be secured properly. Once the other belt set arrives, I'll get the other 2 verticals on for completeness.

In the picture below you can see that my torque wrench would never fit between the roll bar and the seat belt bolts so doing it this way was the right way to approach it.
